Manchester United could be set to miss out on one of their midfield targets as Nottingham Forest enter the fray.
The Tricky Trees are preparing for their UEFA Conference League qualification games after an incredible season which saw them hold third place in the Premier League for the majority of the season.
Unfortunately for Nuno Espirito Santo and his men, Manchester City, Chelsea, Newcastle and Aston Villa all fought back in the dying few fixtures to knock them out of contention for Champions League football.
However, this season has shown that the club are capable of fighting for the top spots, with the club’s recruitment team aiming for some of the world’s top talent.
Give Me Sport has reported that their search has brought them to Palmeiras midfielder Richard Rios, who United have been linked with since last summer.

It’s understood that in July 2024, United enquired about the Colombian international and were preparing a £17 million bid for Rios after an impressive Copa America showing.
However, knowing of United’s interest, the Brazilian side reportedly set a stance of only allowing Rios to leave if his £85 million release clause was met.
As such, nothing materialised with United signing Manuel Ugarte to the role from PSG instead, however, their hunt for a solid midfield is still ongoing.
Now, Nottingham Forest are looking to step in and raid Palmeiras for their talented midfielder currently on show at the Club World Cup.
The Premier League side reportedly scouted the star during Palmeiras’ 0-0 draw with Porto on Sunday 15th June, and are now weighing up whether they take their interest further.
Meanwhile United don’t seem to be a threat to Nottingham Forest in their pursuit of Rios as any reported links with the 25-year-old have died down.
