Manchester United have a long road ahead as they look to rebuild the club, taking it back to the top of world football under the co-ownership of INEOS.

Over the last two years, United have fallen to their lowest point of the post Sir Alex Ferguson era, finishing 8th and then 15th in the Premier League.

In fact, last season was the worst result since the club were relegated back in 1973/74.

The only saving grace for United was the Europa League, but when it came to it in the final, they couldn’t quite get across the line.

United faced Tottenham Hotspur in the final, as the pair of struggling Premier League sides fought for a Hail Mary pass into the Champions League next season.

Despite Spurs winning 1-0, their 17th place finish in the Premier League had already done enough damage to see Ange Postecoglou sacked, with Thomas Frank now sitting in the hot seat.

Despite Postecoglou being sacked, Ruben Amorim hasn’t faced the same fate, with the United hierarchy firmly backing their man.

The Mirror has now reported that United’s chief executive officer Omar Berrada has not only backed Amorim, but has gone on to say that he believes the club will win the Premier League again by 2028.

This lines up with Project 150, with an overarching aim of transforming the club to lift a 21st Premier League title by 2028, when the club has its 150th anniversary.

Speaking about if winning the league in this timeframe was possible, Omar Berrada commented: “Of course. We’ve just finished 15th and it seems like an impossible task. But why not aim for it? Why not do everything in our power?”

He continued: “I firmly believe that we can do it. We have two or three summer windows to build a team to start competing to win the Premier League and if we can achieve it before then, we’ll all be happy — and so nobody’s saying that we don’t want to win it until then.”

The club chief also went on to explain Project 150, saying: “Project 150 is a very simple idea. We’re going to celebrate our 150th anniversary in June 2028, an important milestone in the history of the club. It’s a way of setting a time-bound period where we’re going to focus our efforts to achieve certain goals.

“All we’re saying is we’re setting ourselves a target with a specific timeframe to go and aim for because if you just said ‘we want to win the Premier League’ – great, but by when? So this way, again it’s from the ownership to management, to everybody in the club, we have a target, we have a mission and that’s what we want to achieve.”
