Former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown remains in the Middle East after a warrant for his arrest went out last week in Miami-Dade County, Florida.
The warrant was issued on June 11, but Brown took a trip to the Middle East before it was issued. As of now, Brown is not considered on the run since the trip occurred before the warrant was issued, according to the Miami Herald.
Brown is still in the United Arab Emirates in Dubai, but the police have been in contact with Brown’s lawyers, and he will be taken into custody once he returns to the United States.
The court documents state Brown was allegedly involved in a shooting at Adin Ross’ celebrity boxing event in May. That night, Brown was briefly detained but let go after videos showed him in a confrontation and being led away in handcuffs.
That night, Brown joined Ross’ livestream after being released. Brown says he was jumped by multiple people trying to steal his jewelry and fought back against them. Brown added that he hoped to press charges against those individuals.
In another part of the stream, Brown says he ‘blacked out’ due to the ‘CTE,’ known as Chronic traumatic encephalopathy, he has from his years of playing in the NFL.
“I got CTE, I blacked out. I ain’t know what happened,” Brown said.
In the arrest warrant, it states Brown punched a man at the event and then grabbed a security guard’s gun. After grabbing the gun, he charged at the man and fired two shots, which grazed the man in the neck.
The official charge against Brown is attempted murder with a firearm. The document states that Brown will have to post a $10,000 bond and stay on house arrest until the trial.
There are multiple cell phone and surveillance videos of the incident.
Brown played with the Steelers from 2010 to 2018 until he requested a trade out of the organization. Brown became one of the NFL’s best wide receivers when he was drafted, racking up five All-Pro selections and seven Pro Bowls.
