Former Rutgers Basketball Star Ace Bailey has slid in some mock drafts as of late. ESPN NBA draft expert Jonathan Givony had Bailey listed at No.3 in his previous mock drafts, however, he had Bailey falling to No.6 in his most recent mock draft.
There is much speculation that he will fall in the draft due to poor interviews at the NBA draft combine and not having done a workout for a single team yet. Traditionally, individual teams that are interested in a player invite them up to their facility to have them run drills privately in front of their staff/ scouts. Bailey does have a workout with the 76ers scheduled at the end of the week, but it is currently unclear whether or not he will actually attend the workout.
“Bailey’s predraft workout strategy has perplexed some observers, as he has yet to conduct a single known workout to date, having declined invitations from several teams within his draft range. Sources say Bailey’s camp has informed interested teams that they believe he is a top-3 player in the draft, but also seeks a clear pathway to stardom, perhaps feeling comfortable that a team will trade up to get him at Nos. 3 or 4, should he drop.”
“Bailey is scheduled to conduct a workout with the 76ers later this week, but it’s unclear if he plans to visit any other teams at this stage. Should the Sixers pass on him, he could very well slide to the No. 6 or No. 7 picks, two teams in Washington and New Orleans that are said to be highly intrigued with the 18-year-old’s talent. And both are situations in which there appear to be plenty of minutes and shots to be had.” ESPN’s Jonathan Givony
If the Sixers decide to pass on Bailey, he likely falls out of the top five. Bailey has made it clear that he wants a shot at being a star early in his career, which might not line up with the Sixers plan for him. The Sixers already have Paul George, who Bailey has been compared to a lot. This makes it all the more likely that Bailey will be asked to sit for a while to develop for the future. There is a chance that the Sixers pass on Bailey altogether to avoid a disgruntled player situation. If they do pass on him, the next team’s that have shown significant interest in him are Washington and New Orleans at pick No. 6 and 7.
