All the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding Chelsea as they plan for their next Club World Cup clash.

Chelsea have already kicked off their FIFA Club World Cup campaign, winning their opening game, against LAFC. The Blues are back in action on Friday night when they take on Flamengo hoping to put themselves in a strong position to win their group.

In the meantime, the search for new signings is continuing despite the fact the transfer window will be shut for a couple of weeks yet. Here we round up all the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding Stamford Bridge as the Blues look to build an even stronger squad ahead of the news season.

Gittens latest

Chelsea could get hold of Borussia Dortmund winger for just £46.8million this summer amid failed bids from the Blues so far this summer. That’s according to journalist Ben Jacobs.

“Eventually, this deal is expected to get done because Gittens wants to move, and they [Chelsea and BVB] are not actually far apart as some had suggested,” he told The Football Terrace. “We heard €70m or more, but the number I’m told is €55m, up by €5m from what Chelsea originally thought would get the deal done. And it’s not just the number but the structure of that deal as well.”

Petrovic claim

The Athletic have provided an update on Djordje Petrovic amid reports Chelsea will look to sell the goalkeeper this summer. A report read: “They are certainly open to the idea (of selling). Petrovic wants to be assured of a starting role somewhere, and with Chelsea unable to promise him that, the 25-year-old Serbia international is exploring his options.

“Petrovic asked to be left out of Chelsea’s Club World Cup squad last week, and he has four to five clubs, from the Premier League and elsewhere in Europe, expressing an interest. There is a gentleman’s agreement between Chelsea and the player that he can leave if someone bids £25million (€30m). Petrovic has been given the green light to find himself a club over the next month that will be prepared to pay that.”

Maresca on LAFC win

Enzo Maresca was impressed by Cole Palmer and what he did during Monday’s Club World Cup win over LAFC. He told the club website: “He was trying to receive the ball, go one-versus-one against players, and this is the Cole we expect. After the Conference League final, he said he was bored when receiving the ball, so he decided to do something different. The day after that interview, I said to him that he could do it from the first minute – and why did he wait so long?! Why not do the same after one minute?

“Today, he was exactly doing that, and we are happy when he does that. I’ve said many times Cole is our best player, a top player, and hopefully he can continue to do the right things.”

Maresca added on the win: “What’s important is the behaviour of the players, the attitude, and once again today, they showed how professional they are and the desire they have, because it was important to win today and also not to concede a goal. We finished the Premier League season and Conference League very strong defensively, without conceding many goals. Today we continued that and we want to stay with this attitude.”
