Liverpool's early manoeuvres in the summer transfer window have set the stage for a host of potential moves as the window progresses. Arne Slot's squad is not only geared up for the new season, but also poised to seize any further opportunities that crop up.

The signing of Jeremie Frimpong was necessitated by Trent Alexander-Arnold's exit, while ongoing talks to bring in Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth are underway with an eye on potentially replacing fellow full-back Andy Robertson - if not immediately, then down the line.

However, the most significant deal on the cards is Florian Wirtz, who is expected on Merseyside for a medical to seal a British-record £116m switch from Bayer Leverkusen. While Liverpool haven't lost an attacking midfielder to warrant such a hefty bid, Wirtz's elite talent puts this move on par with past signings like Virgil van Dijk or Allison Becker.

Now, the German prodigy could become the poster boy of a fresh Anfield era, leading the charge for success and potentially luring other top-tier stars to join Slot's project. With all urgent matters sorted, the Reds are well-placed to swoop for any new targets when the time is right.

With that in mind, the ECHO delves into the latest transfer rumours further up the field - focusing on strikers Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike, reports the Liverpool Echo.

A twist for Alexander Isak

talkSPORT's Alex Crook has dropped a bombshell, suggesting Liverpool could smash the British transfer record not just once but potentially twice this summer, eyeing up Newcastle United's hotshot Alexander Isak.

The 25 year old striker, who bagged an impressive 23 goals in the Premier League last season, has been on the Reds' radar. Despite reports that Newcastle are shutting shop on any deals, especially after securing a Champions League spot, Crook spilled the beans: "Liverpool are still in the market for another forward," and "Alexander Isak would be their dream target.

"Are they going to pay massive money for him? Newcastle are quoting £150m as their asking price. Possibly - don't rule it out."

If Liverpool were to cough up such a sum, it would dwarf the £116m splashed on Wirtz. On another note, Liverpool's interest in Eintracht Frankfurt's Hugo Ekitike has also surfaced.

The 22 year old found the back of the net 22 times last season, hitting his stride again after a promising stint at SC Reims . Yet, with Frankfurt sticking firmly to their €100m (£85m) valuation – a figure Football Insider says Liverpool won't meet – and Ekitike tied down until 2029, the Bundesliga club holds all the cards in this transfer tale.
