Andy Robertson would prefer to join Atletico Madrid rather than stay in the Premier League as he edges closer to leaving Liverpool.
That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the 31-year-old wants to continue playing regular football at the top level.
Arne Slot’s side are edging closer to signing Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez, and that deal’s completion will open to door for Robertson to leave.
Brown told Football Insider last month that Liverpool will meet Kerkez’s asking price after talks with Bournemouth stepped up in recent weeks.
Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on 17 June that Liverpool are prepared to sell Robertson despite having held talks over a contract extension.
Premier League clubs had considered a move for the Scotland international, but he would prefer to move away from England given his relationship with the Anfield crowd.

Andy Robertson to quit Liverpool as Milos Kerkez deal lined up
Brown told Football Insider in December that Liverpool were eying Kerkez to replace Robertson as they plan to replace their long-serving left-back this summer.
The former scout, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted a move to Atletico Madrid is most likely for the Scotland international as things stand.
“*Well they’ve been looking to replace Robertson,*” he told Football Insider.
“I think Kerkez is a top-class option, he’ll go to Liverpool and start every week.
“So that opens the door for Robertson to leave and there’s going to be a fair bit of interest, because a few Premier League clubs had considered a move.
“He’s very much now a Liverpool player in that he’s really bought into the club.
“He’s got that connection with the fans and the club, and I can’t see him wanting to go and play for another Premier League side at this stage.
“From what I hear, he wants to make that move to Atletico Madrid.
“There’s interest there and Liverpool are willing to let him go, so it’s one to watch.”

Darwin Nunez transfer update emerges at Anfield
Robertson is not the only big name likely to leave Anfield this summer, as speculation continues to surround the future of Darwin Nunez.
Football Insider revealed on 16 June that Liverpool are desperate to move Nunez on in an effort to raise funds for further investment in the starting XI.
Sources say clubs would be keen to strike loan-to-buy deals for the striker, but Slot’s side are aiming to recoup funds in this summer’s transfer window.
This comes after Football Insider revealed Nunez will choose between Atletico Madrid and Saudi clubs as he edges closer to a move away from Anfield.
