Arsenal assistant coach Carlos Cuesta is set to be appointed as Parma’s new manager, journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed.
The Serie A club are reportedly in the final stages of negotiations with Arsenal to complete the move for the 29-year-old Spaniard, who is set to succeed Christian Chivu following his departure to Inter.
According to Romano, Parma are now waiting for the North London club to give the green light for Cuesta’s departure, as he prepares to leave the Emirates after five years working under Mikel Arteta:
Cuesta joined Arsenal’s coaching staff in the summer of 2020, after gaining experience as a youth coach with Atletico Madrid and Juventus’ U17 sides.
He was under contract at the Emirates until June 2027, having signed an extension earlier this year alongside the rest of Arteta's backroom staff.
Cuesta is believed to have been in talks with Parma for several weeks and, according to reports, is expected to travel to Italy on Wednesday to potentially finalise the move.
It remains to be seen whether Arsenal will seek to replace the 29-year-old with a new assistant coach, while Parma have been searching for a new manager since Chivu’s departure earlier this month.
The former defender left the Serie A club after only 13 games in charge and has replaced Simone Inzaghi at Inter, following the Italian's departure to Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal.
Parma finished 16th in Serie A last season, five points above the relegation zone, having won just seven of their 38 matches.
