Man City could block a summer exit for veteran midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, sources have told Football Insider.

The 34-year-old has emerged as a target for Turkish giants Galatasaray in recent days after a disappointing 2024-25 campaign at the Etihad Stadium.

City have already moved to shift veteran playmaker Kevin De Bruyne, while senior winger Jack Grealish has also been cut out of the first-team picture.

However, it is believed the current plan is to keep Gundogan on for the final year of his contract to provide valuable experience for Pep Guardiola.

Gundogan could see out contract at Man City

The retired Germany international originally left Man City to join Barcelona on a free transfer in 2023, but returned just 12 months later.

Gundogan is now under contract until June 2026 and could be kept on for the full duration of that deal despite interest in Turkey.

Competition for places will be high for the midfielder next season, with Tijjani Reijnders and Nico Gonzalez drafted in for big money in recent months.

Meanwhile, Ballon d’Or winner Rodri has also returned to full fitness and is expected to play a big role at the Club World Cup this summer.

Gundogan has made 354 total appearances for Man City across two spells and has lifted five Premier League titles and the Champions League with the club.

Everton set sights on another Man City veteran

Meanwhile, Everton are among the Premier League clubs reportedly considering a move to sign Man City star Kyle Walker.

That is according to former Man United and West Ham scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game.

Brown exclusively told Football Insider that David Moyes values the 35-year-old’s experience as a key asset.
