David Moyes wants Everton to sign West Ham right-back Vladimir Coufal on a free transfer upon the expiry of his London Stadium contract.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that Moyes is a huge fan of the 32-year-old after his spell at West Ham.

The pair are believed to share a strong relationship which has given Everton the edge in the race for his signature despite rival interested.

Football Insider revealed on 11 June that Everton want to sign Coufal alongside the likes of Wolves, Fulham, Leeds, Sunderland and Burnley.

Ashley Young’s departure has left the Toffees with a gap to fill at right-back and they are targeting experienced options to bolster Moyes’ squad.

This comes after Football Insider exclusively revealed on 16 June that Everton want to sign Kyle Walker from Man City as another right-back option on their list.

David Moyes sets sights on bringing Vladimir Coufal to Everton

Brown told Football Insider in April that Moyes wants to sign new full-backs as a priority this summer and has already identified a number of key targets.

The former scout, who worked closely with Moyes during his time at West Ham and has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment, insisted signing Coufal would be a risk-free move for the Toffees to plug a gap.

“Everton want to sign Coufal when he leaves West Ham,” he told Football Insider.

“Moyesy knows him better than anybody and he’s the one pushing to bring him in.

“I don’t think he’s the best right-back in the Premier League by any means, but Moyes knows what he’s going to give him every week and knows he can rely on him.

“After Ashley Young left, they want somebody to come in and do the job he was doing.

“They want an experienced player and he certainly fits that bill.

“On a free transfer, it’s risk-free and plugs a gap while they focus elsewhere.”

Michael Cooper update emerges after Sheffield United twist

Alongside the addition of a new right-back, Everton have also been aiming to strengthen in goal with Sheffield United star Michael Cooper on their radar.

Football Insider revealed on 16 June that Everton want to sign Cooper after the Blades failed in their bid for promotion, but look set to miss out this summer.

Cooper wants to play regular football at this stage of his career, and is not prepared to play backup to Jordan Pickford who will remain the Toffees’ number one.

The Toffees have begun working to sign a new second-choice keeper after both Asmir Begovic and Joao Virginia left the club upon the expiry of their contracts.
