'I'm sure...'- Man United listened to Edwin van der Sar's£44m transfer advice with latest decision

Manchester United legend Edwin van der Sar offered his advice on this summer’s transfer business and it seems Ineos have listened.

The summer window kickstarted with the £62.5m arrival of Matheus Cunha from Wolves and Ineos are still in talks with Brentford over Bryan Mbeumo.

But if more signings are to arrive at Old Trafford, sales need to be made and so far that has proven difficult this summer.

Ineos are working on a triple exit of unwanted wingers, but others could follow and there has been plenty of speculation about the goalkeeping department.

Andre Onana did not rule out leaving United when asked about his future last week, but it seems Ineos are eager for him to stick around.

Edwin van der Sar advised Man United to keep Andre Onana

After a meeting with his agents, United have decided to keep Onana next season.

Despite Onana being dropped by Amorim after his costly mistakes in the Europa League, the Cameroon international will remain the No.1 choice.

Legendary shot-stopper Edwin van der Sar defended Onana last week and suggested that he should stay at Old Trafford.

Van der Sar worked with Onana at Ajax before he made his move to Inter Milan and then United.

When asked about Onana’s future, the Dutch legend said: “He has great strengths. He’s athletic. He has good reaction saves. Good with his feet and everything. I’m sure he’s going to get over it.

“Sometimes it’s not easy. Sometimes your performances or the pressure there is. But I’ve seen him play for Ajax, for Inter, Champions League finals. I’m sure he’s going to be fine for next season.”

Andre Onana saves Man United from big transfer spending

Reports suggest Amorim wants new goalkeepers at United, but with Onana staying, fans can give up hope of a new No.1 arriving this summer.

United have been linked with Emiliano Martinez as a potential goalkeeper option, but Onana staying means that deal is no longer on the cards.

There have also been links to Gianluigi Donnarumma, but that is another potential deal that can now be chalked off.

Amorim defended Onana last season and with huge pressure to hit the ground running in the 2025/26 campaign, he will have to keep faith with him again.

United’s head coach will hope that Van der Sar’s prediction about Onana next season is accurate.
