Durant trade talks go silent between Spurs and Suns, two new names emerging

The Spurs and Suns are not in constant contact over the Kevin Durant trade. If the Spurs decide not to meet the Suns' price for KD, they may shift their focus to pursuing stars like Giannis Antetokounmpo or Jaylen Brown instead.

Phoenix Suns superstar Kevin Durant reportedly has the San Antonio Spurs at the top of his preferred trade destinations, but both sides are struggling to find common ground.

The Suns are reportedly demanding either guard Stephon Castle or the No. 2 overall pick in a potential package for Durant — a price the Spurs believe is simply too high.

"While league sources continue to relay that other teams are in constant contact with the Suns about a potential Durant trade, the same cannot be said about the Spurs," Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints reported.

In fact, things have gone quiet in San Antonio over the last 48 hours regarding Durant, the 2025 NBA Draft, and other trade possibilities involving stars around the league.

Could that silence signal that the Spurs are backing away from pursuing the 36-year-old future Hall of Famer?

On the flip side, Siegel notes that some sources now believe the Spurs may be preparing a one-time, secretive offer for KD — potentially banking on his trade value dropping as the draft approaches.

If San Antonio ultimately decides not to go all-in for Durant, two other superstar names could come into focus: Giannis Antetokounmpo and Jaylen Brown.

"If San Antonio holds off on pursuing Durant, these will be the two stars to keep an eye on for San Antonio moving forward," Siegel wrote.

The Spurs have reportedly kept a close eye on Jaylen Brown's situation in Boston over the years.

Now, with the Celtics reportedly looking to scale back spending despite just winning a title, the 28-year-old Finals MVP may become a more realistic trade target — just like Giannis, who is, for the first time in his career, said to be seriously considering options beyond Milwaukee.
