Before the trade deadline, Kevin Durant reportedly wanted to join the Boston Celtics, but a deal remains unlikely now in the offseason due to Boston's tight salary cap situation and long-term roster stability.
Plenty of rumors have been swirling around Kevin Durant and possible landing spots for him this offseason. But the buzz didn't start recently. It actually began before the February 6 trade deadline.

According to Kevin O'Connor of Yahoo Sports, Durant had his sights set on joining the Boston Celtics, the reigning NBA champions at the time.
"In fact, Durant has already been denied by his top choices. There were rumblings at the trade deadline, KD wanted to land with the Celtics or Knicks," O'Connor reported. "New York's interest reportedly isn't mutual anymore. Boston's cap sheet and trajectory make that scenario highly unlikely."
At the moment, Durant reportedly has the San Antonio Spurs at the top of his list, but trade talks between them and the Phoenix Suns have gone quiet in recent days, with both sides struggling to find common ground.
According to ESPN's Shams Charania, the Houston Rockets and Miami Heat are more realistic trade destinations for Durant right now than the Spurs.
Before the deadline, the Golden State Warriors, Miami Heat, and Minnesota Timberwolves also showed interest in acquiring him.
Durant, 36, is entering the final year of his current contract in the 2025–26 season.
