Serie A champions Napoli interested in Man United outcast

Manchester United have already bolstered Ruben Amorim’s squad this summer with the acquisition of forward Matheus Cunha.

The Brazilian joined the Red Devils from Wolves earlier this month, having scored 15 Premier League goals last season.

Amorim will likely be keen to make further additions to his squad before the transfer window shuts at the start of September, with United having endured a dismal season last term.

The Manchester outfit finished 15th in the top flight standings and therefore won’t be in Europe next term, which could hinder their appeal when attempting to lure players to Old Trafford.

It also appears that some players will depart United this summer, though, and Fabrizio Romano claims that Italian side Napoli are among the clubs interested in winger Jadon Sancho.

The journalist claims that the Serie A champions are keen on the Englishman but are currently refusing to pay the player’s huge salary.

United are said to be prioritising a permanent sale of Sancho this summer, however the Red Devils may also consider a loan departure if a sale can’t be agreed.

Sancho joined United from Borussia Dortmund back in the summer of 2021 having registered a combined total of more than 100 goals and assists in 137 games for the German side across all competitions.

He struggled for United, though, and was eventually sent back to Dortmund on loan in January 2024.

The England international then returned to Old Trafford once again, before being sent on loan to Premier League rivals Chelsea ahead of the start of last season.

The 25-year-old was relatively underwhelming for the Blues, though – scoring five goals and providing ten assists in 42 appearances for Enzo Maresca’s side – and the West London outfit therefore opted to pay a fee to send the player back to Manchester.

Sancho’s current contract is set to expire at the end of next season, but it appears extremely unlikely that he will be part of Amorim’s squad next term.
