Birmingham City have been linked with a summer move for Leeds United forward Mateo Joseph.

The 21-year-old was part of the Leeds squad that won the Championship last season but he was used sparingly by Daniel Farke.

Farke instead preferred to use Joel Piroe, who finished as the division’s leading scorer, and one-time England international Patrick Bamford in attack.

Joseph played 39 matches in the Championship and contributed to six goals – three of his own plus three assists for his teammates – but started only 12 times.

Blues had a look at Joseph last year and Give Me Sport claims they could rekindle their interest in the in-demand Spaniard.

Real Betis are keen to sign Joseph having seen a £10million bid rejected by Leeds at the end of the January transfer window. Joseph joined Leeds three years ago from Espanyol and still has three years to run on his contract at Elland Road.

He is currently out in Slovakia leading Spain’s pursuit of glory at the European Under-21 Championships. Spain have qualified for the quarter-finals by finishing top of Group A and will face the runners-up of Group B on Saturday.

England are currently second in Group B ahead of their final match with Germany this evening. Jay Stansfield is part of Lee Carsley’s squad at the Euros and could come into the starting XI for the clash with the Germans.

As things stand, Joseph will go head-to-head with Blues striker Stansfield in Trnava this weekend.
