Derby County's Eiran Cashin picked up his fourth booking of the season last night.
Eiran Cashin looks set to leave Brighton on a loan move this summer.
Brighton are set to grant Eiran Cashin a loan move this summer as part of the former Derby County defender's development.
Cashin has made two Premier League appearances for Albion since moving from Derby in a deal that was understood to be worth around £10m.
But the centre-back has found it hard to nail down a place in the first team although is very much seen as a long-term project having signed a contract until 2030.
He is now set for another move out on loan with clubs in the Championship and in the Bundesliga both showing an interest.
Brighton have strengthened their defence already this summer with Diego Coppola being their latest recruit for an undisclosed fee which will add further competition for places.
Cashin proved an immensely popular figure at Derby having come through the academy having made his debut under Wayne Rooney.
But his talent quickly made him a key component of the team and he was an inspirational figure as the club sealed promotion back to the Championship under Paul Warne last May.
Brighton had made a bid for him in the 2023-24 season, but the move never materialised but they returned back in January this year to seal the deal.
Cashin's first taste of life in the top flight came in a 3-0 defeat to Aston Villa and speaking after the game, in which he came on as a substitute, was taken aback by the difference in quality.
“It has been an unbelievable step up, a big step," he said.
“I didn’t quite believe how big a step it is.
“The talent and the mindset and the mentality of some of these players is at a different level to what I’ve seen before.
“I’m just trying to adapt to it, trying to learn every day.
“I think the coaches have been excellent with me and the players as well.
“I am one of those who work hard until I get it right so I’ve just got to keep working.”
Asked specifically about what that elite mindset looks like, he added: “Just day in, day out, the standards in training, every small detail matters and you can’t get away with not doing the small things.
“And that starts with the senior lads, with JP (Jan Paul van Hecke), all the lads, they drive the standard and I think you can see it out on the pitch."
