Newcastle United's season opener against Aston Villa chosen for broadcast by Sky Sports

ยท 18 June 2025, 10:30

**Sky Sports and TNT Sports have made their selections for which games will be broadcast live across the Premier League's opening weekend.**

It won't be long before we find out more fixture movements as Sky and TNT pull the fixture list apart and move the games around for their own purposes, but for now, the broadcasting pair have chosen the games they want to show from the opening 10 games.

In total, the TV Overlords have chosen six games from the first ten to be shown on Live TV, and thanks to the 3pm blackout still being a thing, that means the majority of games which were originally pencilled in for 3pm kick-offs on Saturday 16th August, will move.

The Premier League will actually get underway on Friday, 15th August, with Liverpool v AFC Bournemouth chosen for the Friday night kick-off.

Newcastle's first game of the season will be shown live on TNT Sports

Aston Villa versus Newcastle United will be the second game of the season, as their match has been brought forward to a 12:30 pm kick-off on Saturday, 16th.

Newcastle and 12:30 pm Saturday kick-offs aren't usually a good mix, so this is a bit of a worry, but at least those who can't get to the first game of the season can watch it live (legally).

The opening weekend now looks like this:

**Friday 15 August 2025**

20:00 Liverpool v AFC Bournemouth **SKY SPORTS**

**Saturday 16 August**

12:30 Aston Villa v Newcastle United **TNT SPORTS**15:00 Brighton & Hove Albion v Fulham15:00 Nottingham Forest v Brentford15:00 Sunderland v West Ham United15:00 Tottenham Hotspur v Burnley

17:30 Wolverhampton Wanderers v Manchester City **SKY SPORTS**

**Sunday 17 August**

14:00 Chelsea v Crystal Palace **SKY SPORTS**

16:30 Manchester United v Arsenal **SKY SPORTS**

**Monday 18 August**

20:00 Leeds United v Everton **SKY SPORTS**

Might as well take some digs at the Mackems on a Wednesday morning

The mighty Sunderland's triumphant return to the Premier League isn't seen as a big enough deal to warrant their opening game being broadcast live, it seems. Leeds United's is, though.

Early prediction: By the end of Saturday, 16th August, either Liverpool or West Ham will be top of the league.

I mean, without Jobe Bellingham, what even are Sunderland?
