Manchester United have been handed a revival in their hope of signing Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres this summer, with a major update regarding Arsenal's transfer plans.
United are searching for a new striker to spearhead Ruben Amorim's attack after their worst goalscoring season in 35 years. Gyokeres has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford since Amorim moved to Manchester last year.
Gyokeres and Amorim spent 15 months together with the Sweden international scoring 66 goals in that period. It was expected that the 27-year-old would be allowed to leave below his €100million (£84m) release clause but a fall-out with Sporting CP has stopped that.
Arsenal have also been linked with signing Gyokeres, with Mikel Arteta under pressure to deliver a title to the Emirates Stadium. Reports last week indicated that the striker's preference was a move to the Gunners, leaving United in limbo, but news coming out of Germany could open the door for Amorim to get his man.
BILD have reported that Arsenal have 'reached an agreement' with RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko. The 22-year-old has been the Gunners' top target this summer on the back of scoring 21 goals last season.
The report in Germany claims that the Gunners have come to an agreement with the Slovenian on personal terms. There is still work to be done with Leipzig but it's suggested that the north Londoners have signalled to the Bundesliga side that their offer won't fall short of their expectations.
A bid in between £68.5m-£85.5m is understood to be the fee Arsenal are considering putting on the table, with the exact amount expected to come out in the coming days.
Signing Sesko would see Arsenal drop out of the race for Gyokeres and leave United to construct a deal. Juventus are also said to be considering a move, with reports in Italy suggesting the Old Lady are prepping an €80m (£68m) move for the striker.
