Ben Doak could become the first player since Gary Ablett to swap Liverpool for Everton this summer.

It has been 33 years since a Reds star moved across Stanley Park but the Scotsman could be the next man to do so.

David Moyes is apparently keen to add Liverpool ace Doak to his squad after an impressive campaign on loan at Middlesbrough in the Championship.

The young Anfield ace notched three goals and seven assists in 24 matches before his season was cut short by injury.

Doak to Everton could happen after Liverpool reveal

The reports of the Hill Dickinson Stadium outfit’s interest in Doak refuse to go away and it is believed that it would take around the £30million mark to seal a deal.

MORE TOFFEES STORIES

Iconic commentator Ian Darke believes that the move could genuinely happen, as it has not been ruled out by either party.

And if it is to be a loan move, that in turn would help inadvertently add money to Doak’s valuation ready for him to be sold in 12 months’ time.

Speaking to Liverpool News (18 June), he said: “It is a persistent story. It is not a story that is going away, which tells you that there is no smoke without fire, that has been obviously leaked to people who are on the inside, on the Mersey beat, who report on the club.

“Ben Doak, he is quick and he did well at Middlesbrough, there is that little question with him, is he quite fragile? Scotland wanted to take him into the Euros, he wasn’t ready for that and then having wowed everybody up on Teeside, he got that injury again.

“Unless there is some big problem, I don’t think there is between Liverpool and Everton, it is not impossible that it could happen, I don’t think he has a problem with it either, it is a Premier League club who want him and have him very much in their plans.

“They can loan him again and if he carries on doing the things he was doing for Boro for half a season, his value goes up again, so it is a win-win.

“I think one thing is for certain, he is not going to be playing for Liverpool this season, he will be playing somewhere else, and from his personal perspective I would say it is really good if he can make a move to an established Premier League club like Everton.”

Everton should try to sign Doak from Liverpool

Arne Slot’s side would likely demand a premium to sell the six-time Scotland international to their city rivals, but the deal could work out for all parties.

The Blues would have a top talent, with the pace and directness that they have been sorely lacking in recent years, while the Reds would receive a nice payday that they can put towards their summer signings as they look to retain the Premier League.

It would be even sweeter for Toffees supporters if Doak could fulfil his huge potential on the blue half of Merseyside, as it would leave a sour taste in the mouth of their rivals, knowing that they let him go and he went on to become a superstar.

Whether that happens remains to be seen but as Darke states, the player would probably not have an issue with making the moves, as he will likely find a quicker route to the first time with the Blues, rather than backing up Mohamed Salah with the champions or being sent out on loan again.

A permanent move would be the best outcome for his career, and it would definitely benefit Moyes’ side if they can persuade their neighbours to part ways with the elite talent.
