‘You can see…’: It’s so clear why Vitor Pereira loves Rodrigo Gomes after Wolves star’s…

Wolves star Rodrigo Gomes just can’t stop scoring on international duty.

The versatile wide player is currently at the U21 European Championships with Portugal, who have made an impressive start to the tournament.

Rui Jorge’s side have maintained an unbeaten start to the competition, drawing against France U21 before demolishing both Poland and Georgia.

Gomes scored in style against Poland and found himself on the scoresheet once more against Georgia, contributing to his country making the quarter-finals.

It’s now two goals in his previous two games at the U21 Euros for Gomes, who surprisingly is yet to start a game.

When coming onto the pitch, Jorge has utilised the 21-year-old in attacking roles, as opposed to the wing-back position he’s accustomed to at Wolves.

Vitor Pereira is an admirer of Gomes, and won’t just love what he’s seen from the player on international duty, but also what he’s heard.

Speaking after Portugal U21’s 4-0 win over Georgia U21, the Wolves starlet spoke highly of his role as a substitute at the tournament so far.

“Everyone is focused, whether they start or come on as a substitute. Those who play always give their all and that is what defines us and can take us far,” Gomes said, via O Jogo.

“We have a very strong group, we all get along very well, and we are taking that onto the pitch, which is very important. That is why we have a lot of goals coming from the bench.”

Gomes’ eagerness to help his team and willingness to take a seat on the bench are qualities Pereira will value from the player, who has had to be patient when it comes to taking his chance at Wolves.

The 21-year-old’s hunger and patience only make Pereira’s job a lot easier, and judging by how Gomes conducts himself, both on and off the pitch, his time to shine will certainly come.

Gomes has a starting spot to fight for at Wolves

Wolves’ starting fullbacks from last season will change, as Rayan Ait-Nouri signed for Manchester City and Nelson Semedo is expected to leave.

Though Hugo Bueno is expected to take the reins from Ait-Nouri on the left, nothing is guaranteed, with Gomes showing all the signs of being capable of having a starting role at Wolves.

Given how much of an admirer Pereira is of the Portuguese starlet, it’s fair to say that the future looks bright for the 2024 signing at Molineux.

For now, Gomes will focus on contributing for his country, where many in the West Midlands will be watching his triumphs closely.
