Jadon Sancho has had a tough time at Manchester United, struggling to re-find the form and heights that he once hit at Borussia Dortmund. Despite a reasonably successful loan spell at Chelsea, the Blues chose not to activate a buy clause in the winger’s contract. As the Red Devils attempt to shift their player this summer, they make an important decision that may help with this.
Manchester United Give Priority to Permanent Transfer for Jadon Sancho
Napoli Among Clubs Keen
Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Manchester United will “give priority” to a permanent transfer for Sancho, rather than a temporary loan move. The Englishman has struggled at Old Trafford, both on the pitch with his performances, and off it with attitude issues; with his high wages, the hierarchy appears to prefer to shift him completely.
However, a temporary move is still a possibility, as the journalist specifies that a permanent transfer is being prioritised before “opening doors to loans”. This may be the only option, as very few clubs can afford to match Sancho’s financial expectations. Reportedly, Napoli are “among clubs keen”, though they will not pay his current salary.

Perhaps a loan deal in which United cover some of his wages is the only way forward, though negotiations are still in early stages with more clubs in the race.
Sancho Departure Embodies Ruben Amorim Rebuild
After an incredibly tough 2024/25 season, Ruben Amorim looks to rebuild the side this summer. The Portuguese manager had arrived partway through the season, only signing one player in January (Patrick Dorgu). He can therefore be given some slack for the lack of results on the pitch thus far.
This summer, the board look to back Amorim in the hopes that he can take United back to the top, where they belong. Matheus Cunha has already joined for a £62.5 million fee. They are currently looking at Bryan Mbeumo as another attacking option, and are even in talks for a new striker, with Viktor Gyokeres and Hugo Ekitike targets.

However, splashing all this cash (even before they get to the back-line) will come at some cost. Their financial woes have been well documented, with Alejandro Garnacho to be sold for funds, alongside various cuts throughout the club. Managing to permanently get Sancho’s wages off the books, and getting a fee alongside this, would be crucial in balancing their spending this window.
