Vincent Kompany's 2019 Man City prediction is about to come true, he saw the future - opinion

While Vincent Kompany left Manchester City back in 2019, he is still missed by the Etihad faithful as the Bayern Munich boss remains one of the greatest players in the club’s history.

The Belgian’s inspirational leadership, one-of-a-kind defensive acumen and incredible consistency were factors that make him a true City legend.

While Manchester City have continued to dominate English football for the most part since Vincent Kompany’s departure, it could be argued that they have yet to replace him as a defender and a captain.

Jamie Vardy paid Kompany the ultimate compliment by naming him as the best centre-back to have ever graced the Premier League, highlighting how special a player he was.

The same could potentially be said about the 39-year-old as a skipper, who risked his injury-hit career to return to the fold time after time, consistently rose to the occasion and led from the front.

Speaking to Breaking Foot, Kompany said: “I say to him often, you are 50% clown, 50% leader.”

“When he becomes 25% clown, 75% leader, he will become the captain of this team. He is so strong and to be honest, there is nobody who deserves this title more.”

💬 "Bernardo, tu es 50% clown et 50% leader. Si tu arrives à être 75% leader et 25% clown, tu vas être capitaine ! Il est tellement fort…"

Ederson Moraes pinpointed how vocal Bernardo is behind the scenes and it seems like Vincent Kompany studied his character to a tee during his time at Manchester City.

The four-time Premier League winner’s prediction is all the more impressive because at the time, he had only played alongside Bernardo Silva for two seasons.

However, as the old adage goes, leaders are made, not born and after a difficult debut campaign at the Etihad Stadium, the Portuguese international has grown leaps and bounds as both a player and a character.

What Bernardo Silva said about Vincent Kompany after his Man City exit

Most importantly, Bernardo, much like Vincent Kompany has led by example during his illustrious spell at Manchester City.

After Kompany departed the Etihad Stadium in 2019, the former AS Monaco midfielder revealed he learned a lot from his former skipper.

“Thank you, captain. What a pleasure to share the dressing room and learn from you over the last two seasons. We’ll miss you.”

Vincent Kompany will now be beaming with pride after seeing Bernardo captain Manchester City and live up to the expectations he set for him as a leader.
