It is looking more and more like Carlos Cuesta could be the ‘surprise’ choice to become the new head coach of Parma, but his fate could have been different.
According to the latest from Fabrizio Romano, Parma are merely awaiting the final green light from Arsenal to appoint Cuesta, given that he is part of the backroom staff that works with Mikel Arteta.
Presuming that everything is eventually approved, the 29-year-old will replace Cristian Chivu as Parma head coach. He in turn went to Inter earlier in the month to take over from Simone Inzaghi after he went to Al-Hilal.
There is another interesting fact too: the appointment would officially make the Spaniard the youngest head coach in the Italian league post-2000. It also begins to create a trend, with Cesc Fabregas having taken the reins at Como a couple of years ago.
Now, an interesting bit of insight has come from the Milan journalist Carlo Pellegatti (via X) regarding the coach. Speaking on his YouTube channel, he revealed that the Rossoneri had him in their sights too before going with Daniele Bonera.
“Carlos Cuesta is a coach who was part of Arteta’s staff at Arsenal, he is 29 years old, and he is an idea of Parma. I’ll give you a little tidbit: Moncada wanted him for Milan last season. For Milan Futuro. A very young coach but they told me he was brilliant,” he said.
