Manchester United star Rasmus Hojlund wants to stay and fight for his place amid interest from Inter Milan this summer. The Denmark international has endured a torrid tenure at United since joining them from Atalanta in the summer of 2023.
Since Ruben Amorim took charge of United, both Joshua Zirkzee and Hojlund have failed to establish themselves as regular starters. Amorim needs a reliable number nine to take charge of the frontline and produce consistent results for the Red Devils.
The former Sporting CP boss famously relied on Viktor Gyokeres at his former club, enjoying great success with consistent output. Despite having a goal poacher profile, who plays at the shoulder of the defenders, Hojlund has struggled to score consistently.
Manchester United forward Rasmus Hojlund would have to compete with potential signings like Hugo Ekitike or Viktor Gyokeres if he stays at the club
The 22-year-old attacker made 52 appearances in all competitions for United, scoring 10 goals and providing four assists last season. The Denmark international’s struggle with consistency has forced United to target number nines like Gyokeres and Hugo Ekiteke this summer.
According to The Athletic, Inter remain interested in Hojlund, but the 22-year-old prefers to stay at United for next season. Despite Hojlund’s availability, there is a concern about a suitable transfer fee that his attractors can pay to sign him.
We previously covered how Hojlund’s market valuation has plummeted to £29.5m in just two seasons after signing him for £72m. United are actively strengthening their attacking department this summer, irrespective of the lack of sales of their numerous surplus players.
Amorim has the opportunity to reduce the squad size as Man United only plays in domestic competitions next season. While the Red Devils would prefer a lean squad with quality over quantity, a few additional numbers would act as a protection against unforeseen injuries.

The situation will remain uncertain until we know how desperately United want to sell their surplus to raise funds. The Red Devils have a lot of areas of vulnerability in their squad that they need to address. Rest assured, if they don’t have to sell Hojlund, then the best course of action is to give him a chance to prove his worth, considering the potential loss through his sale.
