Jonathan David’s Wages Shock Napoli – But a Premier League Twist Awaits

Jonathan David’s wage demands have meant that talks with Napoli have broken down, alerting a number of other clubs.

Currently representing Canada in the Gold Cup, David has left his agents to manage discussions with potential suitors across Europe, the Saudi Pro League and the Premier League.

While the striker is keen to join a Champions League team, his financial expectations are proving a deterrent to some sides.

Newcastle remain interested, but with a reported gross wage bill of approximately £1.85m a week—or £95.96m a year per Capology—the club is cautious about adding another high earner to their squad.

West Ham have freed up wages following a number of senior players departing in the summer. However, they are unwilling to exceed the salaries of top earners Jarrod Bowen and Lucas Paquetá. Reports suggest their current offer is around £100k per week.

According to TeamTalk, a Saudi club has made a much more lucrative offer—a three-year deal worth £60m, around £385k a week inclusive of performance-related bonuses. However back in March, C&H were informed by a source close to the players agent that the forward was interested in football rather than Saudi riches.

David is widely considered as one of the most high-profile free transfers this summer. He was reportedly impressed by Graham Potter and his vision. Sources suggest their offer remains on the table.

David has been a long-term admirer of the Premier League and is yet to confirm his final destination. A move to West Ham with a release clause could work for both parties—and it will be interesting to see how things develop over the coming weeks.
