Welcome to a very late part three of Bitter and Blue’s End of Season Awards!
I’ve been busy with work and holidaying, but I’m back and focused again on completing our end of season awards!
We asked our writers what their game of the season was. A few left field shouts here, but to be fair, there wasn’t much to go off.
Here’s what we said:
Saul
Very unorthodox pick here for me, but give me Spurs vs. Manchester City, where City got the win at Tottenham. An Erling Haaland goal sealed the win against a true thorn in City’s side. Spurs always seem to pose problems and this one was even better given the away nature and the fact they were coming off the huge losses both to Liverpool and Real Madrid. A real momentum builder coming off those losses. The club played well that night, Ederson had a special night and City emerged victorious. Perhaps that was the spark that led City to finish third, but that win was a big one.

Will
I was at this game, and in my opinion, it was the only game this season I left fully thinking that City’s performance was at the levels that they were usually at between 2017 and 2023.
Newcastle at home, where we saw a commanding debut performance from Nico Gonzalez, a hat-trick from Omar Marmoush, John Stones and Abdukodir Khusanov making a formidable partnership and a comfortable 4-0 win, is my pick.
It seemed at the time like a turning point, but considering City lost their next two games after that, it just seemed to be a personification of the old catchphrase, one step forwards, two steps back.
Will’s pick: Manchester City 4-0 Newcastle United

Pete
This is a tough one. Due to the inconsistency of the men’s team, I’m looking at the girl’s matches and the one that really sticks out is the 2-0 Champions League win over Barcelona.
The Catalan side were the holders and it was expected that City wouldn’t be able to hold them. But the Blues surprised everyone and goals by Naomi Layzell and Bunny Shaw capped a stunning display for the girls.
Layzell had never scored before this match, imagine getting your first ever goal against the European champions? She also assisted Bunny for her goal as the Blues pulled off a surprise victory.
