Manchester United are still confident of bringing Bryan Mbeumo into Ruben Amorim's squad for the 2025/26 season, but they could face a stumbling block with the £60million-rated forward.

Mbeumo is high on Man United's wishlist after they sealed the £62.5m capture of Matheus Cunha. The Cameroon winger has indicated he wants to move to Old Trafford, despite interest from Newcastle and Tottenham.

The Brentford striker netted 20 Premier League goals last term, outscoring any other Man United player across all competitions. A move to bring Mbeumo to Old Trafford has been muddied by Tottenham's interest, however, it's believed that the 25-year-old is eager for the transfer.

A proposal of £45million plus £10m in add-ons has already been rebuffed by Brentford, who are reportedly holding out for a figure closer to their £60m valuation. Man United will be optimistic of finalising the deal before pre-season kicks off in July, allowing him ample time to integrate into Amorim's squad.

However, once the signing is secured, Man United will have to brace themselves for the possibility of being without their new recruit for up to six matches later in the campaign, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Mbeumo is a pivotal player for Cameroon and this year's African Cup of Nations will see him journey to Morocco to vie for the title of Africa's best team.

The tournament commences on December 21 and concludes on January 18, 2026. Cameroon find themselves in Group F alongside Ivory Coast, Gabon and Mozambique, with matches scheduled for December 24, 28 and 31.

Should Marc Brys' squad advance to the knockout stages by finishing first or second, they will compete on either January 6 or January 4. This implies that Mbeumo, if selected, will certainly be absent for the Premier League matches against Aston Villa, Newcastle and Wolves.

If they progress to the last 16 and beyond, he will also miss the journey to Leeds United on January 3. Depending on Cameroon's success in the tournament, he could also be unavailable for the matches against Burnley and Manchester City.
