Arsenal are reportedly keeping close tabs on Sevilla midfielder Lucien Agoumé as they weigh up midfield reinforcements ahead of a potentially transformative summer transfer window. The 23-year-old Frenchman has emerged as a possible long-term replacement for Thomas Partey, whose future at the Emirates remains uncertain.
According to journalistMáximo de la Cruz Ramírez, the Gunners are actively monitoring Agoumé’s development following his impressive displays in La Liga. The midfielder joined Sevilla on a permanent deal from Inter Milan in 2024 for €4 million after a successful loan stint, and his form has since attracted interest from several European heavyweights, including Manchester United and Barcelona.
Agoumé, often likened to Paul Pogba due to his blend of technical quality and physical presence, has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €7.6 million. That price tag, coupled with Sevilla’s financial struggles, makes him a cost-effective option for Arsenal as they plan a midfield reshuffle. Sources suggest a deal in the region of £17 million could be possible, though Sevilla are reportedly working to secure full ownership of the player’s rights, which may slightly raise the fee.

At Arsenal, attention is turning to life after Partey. The 32-year-old Ghanaian, who joined from Atlético Madrid in 2020, is in the final month of his contract, which expires in June 2025. With extension talks reportedly stalled due to wage disagreements, Arsenal are preparing for a potential exit. Barcelona are among the clubs said to be considering a move for Partey on a free transfer next summer.

While no formal approach has yet been made for Agoumé, Arsenal technical team led by manager Mikel Arteta are believed to be admirers of his playing profile. Known for his ball-winning ability, tactical discipline, and sharp distribution, Agoumé fits the mold of a modern defensive midfielder and would offer a younger alternative to Partey. His playing style is considered highly compatible with Arteta’s system, especially in high-stakes matches where transition control is vital.

OneFootball described Agoumé as a player who “brings physicality, tactical aggression, and excellent ball distribution, qualities Arsenal will need if Partey departs.” At 23, Agoumé would also offer significant room for development and could partner effectively with Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi, whose £51 million move to Arsenal is reportedly nearing completion as a replacement for the departed Jorginho.
Arsenal may also benefit from their existing relationship with Agoumé’s representatives, ND Sports Management, the agency that also handles William Saliba. That connection could give the Gunners an edge over rival suitors should they decide to make a formal move.
While Arsenal remain open to keeping Partey for the next few seasons, the pursuit of Agoumé signals a strategic push to future-proof the midfield. With the club also targeting attacking talents such as Benjamin Sesko and Real Madrid’s Rodrygo, a balanced recruitment strategy could prove decisive as Arteta’s side seeks to challenge Liverpool and Manchester City for the Premier League crown in 2025/26.
