‘Might not be impossible’: ‘Underrated’ player could still sign for Arsenal this summer – journalist

Arsenal’s summer transfer window is all about new attacking additions.

Indeed, Arsenal will sign a new number nine this summer, while they’re also targeting new additions in the wide areas.

Arsenal have been linked with some exciting new wingers this summer. Rodrygo is an Arsenal target, while Mikel Arteta remains keen on Nico Williams.

Unfortunately, Williams looks set for Barcelona, but according to Charles Watts, there’s an exciting alternative that the Gunners could now pursue.

Speaking to Sports Mole, Watts has claimed that a move for Anthony Gordon is not impossible, but it would be difficult.

Anthony Gordon to Arsenal not impossible

Watts shared what he’s been hearing about Gordon heading to Arsenal.

The journalist says there have been some suggestions that this deal could be possible.

Intriguingly, Curtis Jones recently called Gordon ‘underrated’ and the winger is certainly good enough to play for a team like Arsenal.

“There are other options there, you wait and see what happens with Rodrygo at Real Madrid, Anthony Gordon at Newcastle is a player we know Arsenal like, is there a way to get him out of Newcastle this summer? There seems to be suggestions that while it may be difficult it might not be impossible this summer, so that may be one to keep an eye on,” Watts said.

Anthony Gordon compared to Gabriel Martinelli

Arsenal may go for Gordon, but there’s reason to be sceptical about such a deal.

Indeed, while Gordon is a good player, his stats last season weren’t necessarily better than Gabriel Martinelli’s.

5 Assists 4

Arsenal are looking for clear upgrades in their squad to take them to the next level, and, right now, you’d be hard-pressed to argue that Gordon is that much better than what Arsenal already have.

The Gunners need clear improvements if they want to win major honours next season, and, at this moment in time, Gordon doesn’t look to be a huge step up on the Gunners’ current wide options.

Gordon would be a great signing, but he may not be a transformative addition at the Emirates.
