Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones has been pictured with fellow England international and good friend Anthony Gordon enjoying their summer break together. It is a year on from the time the Newcastle United winger almost moved to Anfield but it never came to fruition and in the present day seems a distant possibility.
Gordon, 24, from Kirkdale was released from the Reds' academy in his youth but has gone on to make almost 200 professional appearances between Everton and Newcastle. In that time he has scored 29 goals and grabbed 31 assists, thus earning transfer interest from his boyhood club last summer.
Although Gordon didn't make the switch to Anfield, the winger has maintained a strong bond with fellow Scouser and Liverpool midfielder Jones through time shared in the Three Lions squad.

As it turns out, the duo are also sharing their summer holidays together too with Jones sharing a picture to his Instagram story at a coastal venue abroad. They were joined by Stoke City talent Jaden Mears.

The Reds had emerged as suitors for Gordon midway through last year's European Championships in Germany which he took part in as England finished runners-up.
Newcastle were looking to comply with the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) so had helped devised a plan that would have seen their star move to Anfield in a £75m transaction, meanwhile Liverpool defender Joe Gomez would move in the opposite direction in a separate £45m deal. In the end certain fringe members of Eddie Howe's squad were able to be sold instead, meaning they did not need to sell Gordon and could prevent the business from happening.
Fast-forward 12 months and if Arne Slot were to express interest in the Magpies man, he would likely be rebuffed.
According to sister site ChronicleLive, St. James' Park decision-makers are calm in spite of recent rumours of a renewed attempt from the Reds. There is no suggestion coming from within that they are open to Gordon's sale and they would not entertain any 'knockdown' offers.
Howe is said to have a budget to work with in the face of PSR troubles, though they are preparing to keep their key players before rejoining the Champions League in the new season.
They are also under no pressure to sell as last winter Gordon renewed his contract on Tyneside, reportedly until 2030. Meanwhile Liverpool have not undertaken any activity towards their own wingers at this stage in the summer transfer window.
Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo and Federico Chiesa have all been party to rumoured exits with Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Napoli interested in each respectively. In Diaz's case, the La Liga side have been outward and have seen an approach rebuffed already.
With other signings to get through the door, a new winger for Liverpool would seemingly only become a higher priority were any of the current options to spring a move away.
Jones had recently interacted with an Instagram post that suggested were the Colombian to leave, Gordon would be the player targeted as a replacement.
