However, after what is expected to be a busy summer transfer window, Arteta will hope that his side will be able to start the new season off to a great start on Sunday 17 August.
There will be a lot of pressure on the Gunners to perform early on in the season, but after likely improve in attack and midfield at least, Arteta will demand nothing but perfection from his players.
1. Man United vs Arsenal – Sunday 17 August: WIN
In their first game of the season, the Gunners will play against Ruben Amorim’s Man United side, who are also hoping to make a lot of squad adjustments in the summer.
It will be a difficult opening fixture, especially considering that it will be at Old Trafford, and Arsenal were only able to beat United once in three attempts last season.
Our prediction: Despite the fact that Man United are expected to improve next season, we believe that Arsenal have too much quality for Amorim’s side.
2. Arsenal vs Leeds United – Saturday 23 August: WIN
For their first home game next season, Arsenal will welcome newly-promoted Leeds United to the Emirates, hoping to make it two wins from two games.
Daniel Farke’s side are likely in the best position to stay up out of all three promoted sides next season, and they are also expected to spend big in the summer.
Our prediction: This certainly won’t be taken for granted by Arsenal, as Leeds are a good side, but we have the Gunners making it two from two.
3. Liverpool vs Arsenal – Saturday 30 August: LOSS
A huge game with regards to Arsenal’s title hopes and ambitions, as they will make the trip to play reigning Premier League champions Liverpool for their third game.
The Reds have all but confirmed the signing of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen, and considering that Arsenal weren’t able to beat them last year, it could be tough.
Our prediction: Based on last season, which is our most recent estimate, we have Liverpool winning this game at Anfield.
4. Arsenal vs Nottingham Forest – Saturday 13 September: WIN
A game against a surprising package last season. Forest managed to secure Europa League football in what was a superb season under Nuno Espirito Santo.
Last year, Arsenal managed to remain unbeaten against Forest, beating them 3-0 first, and the drawing 0-0 in their second meeting.
Our prediction: It would be fair to suggest that Forest may not be as good as they were last season, plus Arsenal should be better.
5. Arsenal vs Manchester City – Saturday 20 September: DRAW
One of the biggest games in the last few years in the Premier League, Arsenal’s fifth game will be against Manchester City and Pep Guardiola.
City have already signed three players in Tijani Reijnders, Rayan Cherki and Rayan Ait-Nouri, so they should be strong next year. Last season the two teams drew in their first meeting and we have the same result.
Our prediction: By this stage, both Arsenal and Man City should be getting to their best in the Premier League, so it should be close.
Arsenal points tally after five Premier League games: 10 points
If the Gunners were to pick up 10 points in their first five games, that would be a solid start, especially considering that they have to play against both Manchester City and Liverpool early on.
