Liverpool fans say the same thing as Curtis Jones spotted on holiday with forward

Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones has been spotted on holiday with the Newcastle United forward Anthony Gordon— with the England duo firm friends off the pitch.

Gordon was of interest to Liverpool last summer when Newcastle United was in need of money to balance the books amid PSR concerns. And it didn't take long for some Reds fans to speculate that "Agent Curtis" could be trying to convince his mate to make the switch back to Merseyside.

Formerly of Everton, Gordon moved to the North East for a fee of around $54 million (£40 million). But Liverpool agreed a deal in principle last summer that would have seen him move to Anfield for $101 million (£75 million) with Joe Gomez going the other way for $61 million (£45 million) in a separate transaction.

A year on, Liverpool got more out of Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo under Arne Slot. But there is still some speculation that a deal for Gordon could be on again, even though he didn't have as impressive a season in 2024/25.

Gordon signed a new contract with Newcastle in October. No length of time was confirmed on how long it runs, but Newcastle described it as being "long-term".

"I just think the club's in a great place," Gordon said at the time. "Since the takeover, it's just been up and up. Me and the gaffer are a perfect match in terms of style of play.

"I love it here. The team is very suited to me — and I'm here to win a trophy. The short story is we need to win a trophy.

"Winning a trophy here would be unbelievable because the fans have waited so long. To be part of that team who finally does it is a massive goal of mine."

Newcastle, of course, did end its long wait for a trophy, beating Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final. Gordon, though, was suspended for that game having been sent off against Brighton in the Premier League.

Federico Chiesa scored at Wembley but goals from Dan Burn and Alexander Isak sealed the victory for the Magpies.

Gordon and Jones have been friends for some time. They already play alongside one another at international level, though it remains to be seen whether that ever matches up at club level too.

Liverpool.com says: Gordon would be an interesting player for the Reds to look at. He is clearly very good, and he is younger than Diaz, but it is hard to see him coming in without the Colombian leaving.

Liverpool has already rejected an approach from Barcelona for Diaz this summer and he still has two years left on his contract. There is still time for that situation to develop further, however.
