One of the most active teams in the talks has been the Minnesota Timberwolves. Despite their strong push to acquire Durant, the 15-time All-Star has no interest in playing in Minnesota, according to reports.

NBA writer Matt Moore revealed that the Timberwolves attempted to construct a three-team deal involving the Suns and the Brooklyn Nets in order to facilitate a move for Durant. However, Durant ultimately shut down the idea.

"League sources have said the Nets were brought in as a potential third team in a deal construct, which would have helped move money and contracts to help both teams reshape their rosters," Moore wrote on his Hardwood Paroxysm Substack.

"No idea what they were getting or sending, but I would speculatively bet Nic Claxton to Phoenix was part of those talks. But then KD did what is his right — and sent out word that he doesn’t want to play there," he added.

Durant, the 2014 NBA MVP and four-time scoring champion, is entering the final year of his contract in the 2025–26 season.

Despite being in the later stages of his career, he remains highly productive, averaging 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game this past season.
