‘Will move on’: Gabriel Agbonlahor reckons £50m player is totally finished at Liverpool now

Liverpool are having themselves a bit of a clear out this summer with a lot of their players seeming to be on their way out of Anfield.

Indeed, only Caoimhin Kelleher has been sold, but with the way things are headed, it’s only a matter of time before the second Liverpool player leaves.

Numerous members of Liverpool’s first-team squad have been linked with an exit this summer with the likes of Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez the most likely to depart.

Seeing as though the Reds are about to break their club-record fee to sign Wirtz, it was obvious that some sales will have to be made.

That is, even if Liverpool don’t actually want to sell any of their players.

Gabby Agbonlahor thinks Darwin Nunez is finished at Liverpool

As mentioned, Nunez’s future has been brought up an awful lot over the last few weeks, with the Uruguay international already having one foot out of the exit door.

The former Benfica man has been linked with Saudi Pro League clubs as well as some European giants such as Napoli and Atletico Madrid.

And, while live on talkSPORT, Gabby Agbonlahor gave his thoughts on where Nunez’s future may lie.

“One that stands out for me in Nunez,” he said.

“If I told you his goal record for Liverpool compared to Benfica, [it’s] obviously [a] harder standard in the Premier League, but he only scored 40 goals in 143 games for Liverpool.

“That’s not a record that a Liverpool striker should have.

“Look at the strikers Liverpool have had in the past. Torres, Suarez, Fowler, Rush. So I think, for me, Nunez is one that will move on.

“Hopefully, they can get the £50m that they want.”

Liverpool must get rid of Darwin Nunez this summer

One of Slot’s main areas to reinforce this summer will no doubt be his striker.

Diaz and Cody Gakpo were the Dutchman’s preferred choices to lead his attack across the 2024-25 season, but they’re both much better off when played in their natural position of left wing.

Indeed, both of them would no doubt do a solid job when called upon by Slot, but in reality, if Liverpool want to remain dominant, they need a regular-scoring number nine.

However, due to the amount of money the club are set to spend on Jeremie Frimpong, Wirtz, and Milos Kerkez, they’ll need to recoup some of their budget to add new faces to their ranks.

And, even though Nunez has shown on occasion that he can live up to the potential he showed when playing for Benfica, he’s too inconsistent for Liverpool to rely upon.

At the moment, it’s anyone’s guess what Slot’s squad could look like at the start of next term, but for now, it looks like they’re taking plenty of steps in the right direction.
