Pascal Struijk could potentially see his spell at Leeds United end this summer transfer window.

The 25-year-old played a pivotal role at the Whites last season as they pipped Burnley to the Championship title.

Daniel Farke wasn’t able to rely on Struijk towards the end of the previous campaign after he picked up an injury, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see his role diminish in the coming months.

Jaka Bijol’s arrival at Elland Road from Udinese looks close, and the addition of another centre-back could mean heartbreak for the Dutch defender in West Yorkshire.

The Italian journalist revealed on X (18 June) that the Slovenia Under-21 international has decided to leave the Serie A outfit once his contract expires at the end of June.

It’s been claimed that the Whites are among the clubs hoping to bring the 19-year-old to Elland Road as a free agent, and despite not making his first team debut yet, he seems highly regarded.

With the arrival of another central defender, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for Struijk.

Sources at Leeds feel Ethan Ampadu is one of the few players capable of making the step up to the Premier League, but the Dutch star wasn’t mentioned.

If Golic is signed for free, that would leave the West Yorkshire outfit with plenty of options in the backline, arguably leading to fierce competition for a place in the starting lineup.

Farke to sanction Struijk sale at Leeds after reinforcements

Bijol may be seen as a replacement for Struijk at Leeds, giving the 25-year-old Dutchman something to think about his future.

Joe Rodon and Ampadu formed an impressive partnership at the Whites last season when the ex-Ajax defender was sidelined, giving Farke a good headache for the coming months.

The German manager counted on Struijk to be one of his first-choice centre-backs, but that may change in the upcoming campaign.

Leeds relied heavily on the Netherlands national during their last stint in the Premier League, but his performances were underwhelming.

With the possibility of Struijk going down the pecking order, he may ask to leave the West Yorkshire outfit this summer.

While fans would undoubtedly be upset about the 25-year-old’s departure, it could potentially be the right call for him if Bijol and Golic’s transfers are confirmed.
