Wolves are pushing to sign a talented 22-year-old striker this summer
Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign a highly-rated Nigerian striker this summer. The Old Gold are in the process of a rebuild in Vitor Pereira’s first summer transfer window at Molinuex and are bracing themselves for a challenging season without the goals and creativity of Matheus Cunha, who was a real linchpin in the West Midlands side’s survival bid last term.
It comes as a significant blow to the team’s attacking output, with left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri also departing to Manchester City, but does leave Pereira with plenty of manoeuvre room on the transfer front - both in terms of attacking recruitment and potentially other areas of the pitch.
Wolves push to sign Rafiu Durosinmi
Wolves are plotting a move to sign highly-rated forward Rafiu Durosinmi, according to reports from Football Insider. The 22-year-old is currently starring for Czech outfit Viktoria Plzen, but is likely to be on the move to one of Europe’s big five leagues this summer after interest in the winter window.
The Lagos-born front-man scored nine goals and registered four assists in 22 appearances last term, with two of those notably coming in the Europa League as the team missed out on a place in the knockout rounds after defeat in the round-of-16 play-offs. He missed large chunks of last season with a knee injury but is quickly developing into one of the star forwards in Czech football after a strong end to the campaign.
Wolves have reportedly been keeping tabs on the 6ft 4in striker since the January transfer window when they made an unsuccessful attempt to bring him in. However, their now thought to be in a pole position to get the deal done as Durosinmi approaches the final year of his contract at the Doosan Arena.
What can Rafiu Durosinmi offer Wolves?
Rafiu Durosinmi is renowned for his excellent strength, ball control and his excellent eye for goal. He boasts an overall record of 22 goals and 10 assists in 52 matches for Viktoria Plzen but is seen as a player that can hit even higher numbers in years to come.
Durosinmi stands at 6ft 4, making him an excellent target man and a key threat from set piece and crossing scenarios. His arrival would instantly provide further competition for Jorgen Strand Larsen, who was a revelation last season, and add further strength in depth after Saša Kalajdžić’s recent injury issues and Hwang Hee-Chan’s recent dip in form.
Wolves are yet to make a first team addition this summer and face a dilemma over whether to keep returning loanee Fabio Silva on the books next term after his strong stint with Las Palmas which saw him register 10 in La Liga.
