Daniel Farke is sweating over Junior Firpo as Leeds United prepare for their return to the Premier League.

The ex-Barcelona star’s contract at Elland Road expires at the end of June, and he could leave as a free agent soon.

Real Betis have expressed interest in Firpo, with the La Liga outfit hoping for his return to Benito Villamarín in the coming weeks.

The West Yorkshire outfit will hope the 28-year-old stays, but they may be in for a heartbreak despite making an effort to keep him.

Firpo to complete Betis transfer after new Leeds United contract offer

Firpo could potentially return to Betis this summer despite an offer from Leeds, according to Joe Brennan.

The AS journalist has revealed that the latest information on the Dominican Republic international’s future remains that he has a new deal on the table from the Whites.

Firpo’s Championship record this season.

Brennan claims that although the 28-year-old left-back has the opportunity to stay in West Yorkshire, all things seemingly point to his transfer away from Elland Road.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, the journalist said: “After a lot of speculation, the latest on the Firpo situation is that Leeds have offered him a deal, but all things seem to point to him joining Real Betis.”

Farke dealt a massive blow with Firpo transfer to Betis

Farke should push Leeds to keep Firpo ahead of next season, as his exit will leave the recruitment department with a major headache.

The 28-year-old was the German manager’s first choice on the left-hand side of the defence in the previous campaign, and made some significant contributions on both ends of the pitch.

Sam Byram has been a backup left-back at Elland Road in recent years, but even his contract expires in the coming weeks.

If Leeds lose both the Englishman and the Dominican Republic defender, a massive investment will arguably be needed to replace them.

The Whites already have multiple areas that they should prioritise, with a new quality goalkeeper undoubtedly at the top of the list.

Illan Meslier lost his place in the starting lineup towards the end of last season after making some huge errors, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see the West Yorkshire outfit sell the Frenchman this summer.

The Whites must add more depth in every department, and 49ers Enterprises could save some money by convincing Firpo to stay.

With only a few days left until the end of June, the 28-year-old’s future will soon be resolved.
