It turns out Jaire Alexander’s beef with the Green Bay Packers wasn’t all about the money. The Packers released the two-time Pro Bowl cornerback before mandatory minicamp this month after he refused to agree to a restructured contract.
Per Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Packers’ restructured deal included a pay cut for the veteran cornerback. Following Alexander’s refusal to budge on the contract, Green Bay released the All-Pro as a post-June 1 cap cut, saving the team from paying him the $17.1 million due in 2025.
On Wednesday, Alexander found a new home for the upcoming season. He’s signing with the Baltimore Ravens and will be reunited with his former Louisville Cardinals teammate, quarterback Lamar Jackson. The Packers and Ravens will play on Dec. 27, which will make for an interesting matchup after the signing, partially because it appears he holds a grudge against Green Bay.

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Alexander turned down more money to play with the Ravens. He signed a one year deal worth up to $6 million, with $4 million being guaranteed.
“Compensation update: Former Packers CB Jaire Alexander signed a one-year, $6 million deal with the Ravens,” Schefter posted on X. “He turned down more to be in Baltimore with his former college teammate, Lamar Jackson. “Deal breakdown: It’s a one-year, $4 million deal with Jaire Alexander having the ability to earn $2 million more in incentives. $6 million max value.”

Alexander didn’t think the pay cut was worth staying with the Packers, the team that drafted him in the first round of the 2018 draft. Alexander, 28, wanted to sign with a championship contender. And he might have been trying to get away from a possible sinking ship in Green Bay, as the team has Matt LaFleur coaching on the hot seat.
