Chelsea are off to a great start in the FIFA Club World Cup with a 2-0 win over Los Angeles FC. With the tournament underway, the summer transfer window has reopened as well. In this crucial period, the Blues are not only focused on potential new signings but are also working behind the scenes to secure the futures of the current players.
One such player is goalkeeper Teddy Sharman-Lowe. The Chelsea player who has spent most of his career on loan to different clubs.
He is set for a contract extension with the Blues. However, unsurprisingly, he is set for another loan spell next season as well. This will be the fifth such stint of the 22-year-old's career. He is yet to make his senior debut for Chelsea.
As reported by Simon Johnson, there is set to be a new deal for Sharman-Lowe and a season-long loan to Bolton Wanderers is expected to be confirmed. The extension will be for two years plus an option for 12 months.
Chelsea to send Sharmon-Lowe to Bolton on loan
Chelsea recently released three young goalkeepers from their squad. They were Lucas Bergstrom, Eddie Beach, and Luke Campbell. In the wake of those exits, the retention of Sharman-Lowe highlights the club's belief in him.
In the last campaign, the English international featured in as many as 51 matches for Doncaster Rovers. He kept 15 clean sheets throughout the season.
So it’s fair to say that the club is satisfied with the development of the youngster and wants to continue his progress through regular game time and competitive experience. A loan move to Bolton Wanderers seems to be a step in the right direction in that regard. They finished 8th in League One last season and will be hoping to make a promotional push in the upcoming campaign.
