Manchester United have already made a positive start to the summer window by raiding Wolves for the services of Matheus Cunha. The forward is tied down to the Red Devils until 2030 after joining in a deal worth around £62.5million. He will be expected to provide more firepower up top, given that United often struggled to hurt opposing defences last season.
Cunha will almost certainly be joined by more new arrivals between now and the start of the new campaign. A number of big-name players have been linked with United, who are thought to be recruiting in several positions. There will also be some exits after the Old Trafford giants slumped to their worst finish in Premier League history in the season just gone.
Express Sport rounds up the current state of play at United, starting with players who could join in the near future...
Potential signings
United are known to be chasing a move for Bryan Mbeumo, who looks certain to leave Brentford over the coming weeks. Tottenham have been tipped to hijack the move, with Thomas Frank said to be keen on bringing his former player to north London.
However, according to Fabrizio Romano, the Bees winger prefers the idea of moving to Old Trafford. Talks are reportedly being held on a daily basis with a view to wrapping up a move for Mbeumo sooner rather than later.
Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike has been mentioned as another potential target for United. However, a move will not come cheap with The Mirror reporting that Frankfurt have slapped a £60m price tag on their star forward.
Several other Premier League clubs, including Liverpool, have also been credited with a desire to land Ekitike this summer. They would have the advantage of being able to offer Champions League football, which is a luxury that United do not enjoy.
Potential exits
Jadon Sancho is among those who could leave United over the coming weeks, with Napoli said to be interested in snapping him up. According to Sky Italy, the winger has already indicated that he wants to revive his career with the Serie A champions.
However, it is claimed that United will need to reduce their £21.3m asking price for a deal to be arranged. Alejandro Garnacho is also thought to have played his final game for the Red Devils but reportedly wants to stay in the Premier League.
Chelsea have been linked with Garnacho for a number of months, but the Blues are pursuing a move for Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens. It remains to be seen if they will be able to sign both players ahead of the upcoming season.
Antony, meanwhile, has reportedly been the subject of fresh talks between United and his former loan side Real Betis. According to ABC De Sevilla, the Spanish club have proposed a deal that would see them pay just £17m to become joint owners.
Under the terms of the proposal, they would look to increase that ownership of Antony by a further 12.5 per cent each year until achieving full ownership. Deals structured in this way are relatively common in La Liga but are rarely seen in English football.
There is also the question of what United should do with Marcus Rashford, who looks likely to move on this summer. His preferred destination is widely believed to be Barcelona, with Marca reporting that he would take a significant pay cut in order to join them.
What has Ruben Amorim said?
United's manager is painfully aware that not being in the Champions League next season will damage their ambitions in the transfer market. However, he believes there is still room for the Red Devils to recruit some quality players in the summer window.
Speaking while on United's recent post-season tour of Asia, he said: "We'll see what we're going to do. We have two plans for the transfer market.
"Not being in the Champions League is tough, but we have to look at the positive side. We have more time to think, to work during the week and to be better in the Premier League."
