Liverpool star sends mixed signals over possible transfer

Liverpool forward Luis Diaz has reportedly given mixed signals about his future ahead of the summer transfer window.

The 28-year-old winger has been on the radar of a Spanish giant for the past month. According to Marca, he has sent unclear messages to Hansi Flick’s team about whether he plans to leave the Merseyside club or stay.

The uncertainty around Diaz’s future started last month, when he spoke during national team duty.

He said: “I’m very happy at Liverpool, I’ve always said it. They’ve treated me well since the first day… We’re talking with other clubs.”

He further added: “It’s the transfer window, it’s normal. We’re waiting to see what happens. If Liverpool renews my contract, or if I have to stay the two years I have left, I’ll be happy. It’s up to them.”

After his statement, reports emerged claiming Diaz only wants to join the Catalan club. However, interest has also come from Saudi Arabia, with Al-Nassr reportedly marking him as a key target.

Barcelona outline strategy for Liverpool star

Reports suggest the Spanish champions have asked Liverpool to reduce Diaz’s price to €51 million. However, the Reds have valued him at around €68 million.

They also have other options in the market. One is Athletic Bilbao forward Nico Williams, who is now strongly linked with the club, as per Fabrizio Romano.

🚨🔵🔴 Barcelona have decided to activate the Nico Williams deal option after getting player’s total priority.

Barça will need more rounds of talks with his agent as they’d need to discuss terms of €58m release clause with Athletic.

The Spanish international has reportedly shown interest in joining Lamine Yamal at Camp Nou. His release clause is €58 million, making him a cheaper and younger option than Diaz.

Nico is 22 and will turn 23 in the coming months, while Diaz is already 28. The Spanish side may also be considering long-term resale value.

If they fail to land Nico Williams, they may turn their attention back to Luis Diaz as a key option for the left-wing position.
