Quarterback Shedeur Sanders was a star at the University of Colorado.
According to several reports by Cleveland media outlets, former University of Colorado quarterback (and current Cleveland Browns QB) Shedeur Sanders received a speeding ticket in Ohio.
As reported by Fox 8 News, Sanders was written up by police in Cleveland suburb Strongsville for going 101 miles per hour in a 60 mile per hour zone on June 17. Sanders, who penned a song called Perfect Timing, apparently had somewhere to be in a rush.
Sanders is in Ohio after being drafted in the fifth round by the NFL's Cleveland Browns. At one point, he was considered a first-round pick by media analysts. However, reports after he fell past the second and third rounds of the draft suggested concerns about Sanders's off-field maturity and desire to learn a playbook contributed to his fall.
Additionally, some suggested Sanders's star power could be a detriment. Shedeur is the son of hall-of-famer Deion Sanders, who also coached Shedeur for his entire college career, including two years at CU.
Regardless of the reasons for Sanders slip in the draft, he now faces a battle to make the Browns roster with veteran Joe Flacco, former first-round-pick Kenny Pickett and a third-round pick from this year Dillon Gabriel also vying for a spot. Alhough speeding is not even close to the worst off-field problem that Cleveland has supported a quarterback through, in a situation where Sanders already faces a tough road to the roster it may not help his case.
Sanders can either contest the ticket in court or choose to pay a $250 fine. Depending on where he was allegedly caught speeding, he could face a criminal offense for going more than 35 miles per hours over the speed limit, according to Ohio traffic laws.
