Commanders Tight End Given Surprisingly Low Ranking

Zach Ertz may be remembered for being a Philadelphia Eagles legend in his NFL career, but he's quickly becoming just as beloved as a Washington Commanders legend.

The former Super Bowl winner caught 66 passes for over 600 yards last season, his highest total since his 2019 season when he helped the Eagles win the NFC East. Now, at 34 years old, Ertz is trying to do what he can to help Washington lay claim to the division crown.

Not everyone believes the Stanford product will be healthy enough to accomplish that goal.

PFF recently released its tight-end rankings ahead of the new season this week, and Ertz was ranked 30th best in the league.

Yes, a player who caught over 60 passes last season came in at 30th overall.

"While Ertz isn't the same player we saw from 2013 to 2019, he enjoyed a resurgence while catching passes from Jayden Daniels in 2024," PFF wrote. "He hauled in 84 passes for 809 yards and eight touchdowns last season, and his 72.5 PFF receiving grade was his best mark since 2019, showing he still has good play left in the tank."

It's hard to determine how good Ertz will be next season. He has struggled with injuries over the last few years and has not been nearly as productive as in Philadelphia.

Things can change when a franchise quarterback is throwing the ball, though. Jayden Daniels' arrival into Washington's offense has rejuvenated Ertz's career. Now, coming in 30th seems too low for a player who is expected to be a key part of the Commanders' offense in 2025.

At the very least, it's clear that Ertz still has something left in the tank.
