CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders was cited for driving 41 mph over the speed limit earlier this week, police say.
Strongsville police issued Sanders a citation that accused him of driving 101 mph in a 60 mph zone, according to court records.
At roughly 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, an officer pulled over Sanders, who was driving a 2025 Dodge, and accused him of speeding on Interstate 71 northbound near Ohio 82, according to court records.
The citation is a fourth-degree misdemeanor, and Sanders is due back in Strongsville Mayor’s Court on July 3. Court records show he can pay a $250 fine to waive the case.
Cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer reached out to a representative for the Browns seeking comment.
The Browns ended their mandatory minicamp last week, but Sanders and other rookies remained in Cleveland for an orientation.
Sanders, 23, has been a lightning rod after the team drafted him in the fifth round out of the University of Colorado, where he was an All-American.
He remains fourth on the team’s depth chart at quarterback behind Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel.
The incident marks the second time in three years involving a Browns player speeding. In 2022, Myles Garrett wrecked his 2021 Porsche 911 Turbo S while speeding on a rural road in Medina County.
