With the NFL set to expand once again in the very near future, I asked the following question this past week:
> _**Do you think NFL expansion is a good idea, and if so, or if not, why? Given that expansion is almost guaranteed, who do you think will get a franchise, who should get a franchise, and who would you like to see get a franchise and why?**_
Below are some of your thoughts and answers-
**jimmythesaint1** like many of us, is long past tired of all the crap you now have to pay for just to watch all of your own team's games.
> Goodell’s/Owner’s Greed-Basic cable (CBS NBC FOX ESPN)-YouTube Package-ESPN+-Amazon Prime-Paramount+-Netflix-NFL Network-NFL+
>
> Expansion outside the states is a 100% guarantee to happen, then the NFL fan/consumer will need to add SkyTV and who knows what else. And they think they will be growing the game? I used to be a diehard NBA fan. I haven’t watched a minute of NBA for 3 years running. I’ll never go back. They created an unwatchable product. The NFL is barreling down that same hole.
**sdphinsfan** is ready for the league to realign sooner than it expands.
> If expansion is truly demand driven, then it will work. They have a great product. Where they put it is key. If San Antonio/Austin or SLC or St. Louis can sell out there stadiums, its good. More than expansion though the NFL needs to look at realignment. Don’t give me the old rivalries line...there are no rivalries anymore.
**MIAMI235** believes that the league is big enough, but that the rosters need to be expanded.
> Maybe we are still at the point of enough is enough.
>
> Expanding rosters may be an alternative, getting more players in the League.
**finfanfromsiam** knows that due to money, it will happen, but it might backfire in the long run.
> NFL greed mandates expansion! Thus the sport will deteriorate further. Have said before the NFL thinks it is too big to fail. Those at the top fall harder. Keep alienating the fans NFL, keep alienate us.
**Miami7** believes that teams overseas would be a horrible idea.
> An international team would be an absolute joke - would likely end any interest at all in the NFL for me. I do not feel expansion is necessary - as stated - there are only so many QBs on the planet, on top of that only 4-5 that’re ELITE. Thinnin’ that herd even more just seems ridiculous in a league that’s already segregated them in so many idiotic rule changes (and financially) from the rest of the players as is.
**Francesco** ITA has a good idea, but I doubt you could ever get enough owners to vote for it.
> what about making an A league and a B league as we use in european soccer ?
>
> A league 24 teams (Superbowl, the 4 worst goes to be B league after play outs)
>
> B league 24 teams (best 4 climb to A league after playoffs, the B bowl winner get the 1st choice in the draft)
>
> I understand it’s not in americans DNA ..but would give the best teams a better chance to win the title while allowing a lot more teams.
**Bill Moody** believes that they have already hit the magic number.
> I think 32 teams is a perfect number... Therefore, if the NFL wanted to expand Internationally, they should create the NFL-I (and affiliated league), and use pre-season games to play cross-league, but otherwise, like the Offspring sang, “gotta keep em separated”. This is probably NOT what the NFL wants since they are in it for the $$$, but for league intergrity, its probably the better route to go. They can still hold international games like they do now if they wanted to showcase some of the US teams around the world.
**SlayerNation1** is tired of it!
> Roger, Roger, Roger… just stop trying to fix something that isn’t broken.
>
> Apparently Rog can’t sit through a UFL game either. If He did, it would become self evident that any expansion would be more unqualified players and coaches.
>
> Would they generate significantly more revenue or just be slicing a pie into more, smaller slices made of inferior ingredients?
>
> … and then I remembered We are getting lulled to sleep by Shrinkflation at every turn. In light of that, welcome to the league Provo, Tulsa, Montreal and London.
>
> To soothe myself, I shall dig into my 10 oz “pint” of Häagen-Dazs that costs twice as includes twice as much ice cream flavored air.
**dedstrk316** knows its coming.
> It’ll happen for sure. Maybe realignment also.
**jmworacle** says keep it home.
> First of all, I believe it would be a big mistake to expand outside of North America with the exception of Hawaii. My suggestions would be Orlando, Florida, Memphis, Tennessee, San Antonio, Texas, St. Louis, Missouri, Salt Lake City, Utah, Portland, Oregon, and Honolulu, Hawaii. And one other. Keep the International Games, but why should a team lose a home game?
That’s our ten randoms for this evening. Thank you, as always, to each of you who took the time to participate in our questions of the day.
