Dallas Cowboys Reportedly Adding Ex-Packers Player

The Dallas Cowboys have added a potential depth piece to their secondary. Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, free agent cornerback Robert Rochell has agreed to terms on a one-year contract with Dallas.

Rochell, 27, was a former fourth-round pick and has spent the last two seasons in Green Bay. Most of his production came during his rookie season with the Rams, where he played 234 defensive snaps and started five games. Rochell logged four pass breakups and an interception that year, helping the Rams win a Super Bowl title.

Rochell saw limited playing time the following year, however, and was released ahead of the 2023 season. Rochell had practice squad stints on both the Seahawks and Panthers before landing with the Packers that October.

For what it's worth, Rochell has consistently stood out in preseason action throughout his career. Last year, Rochell earned a 76.0 coverage grade across 40 coverage snaps, according to Pro Football Focus.

"A freakish athlete with outstanding size, length, and explosiveness, Rochell has evaluators buzzing about his expected testing numbers. He typically works as a press-man corner but has all the tools necessary to play in a variety of coverages, including Cover 3, where he has displayed an ability to excel with his range and ball skills. His technique and spotty transitions will be quickly discovered and exploited by pro talent, so he might require a year for additional work and polish. He attacks throws like the former wideout he is and could become successful at baiting quarterbacks into throws they shouldn't make. The ball production and rare physical traits/abilities could make him a fast riser in this draft as a Day 2 talent."

Measuring 5'11" and 193 pounds, Rochell ran a blazing 4.41-second 40-yard dash at the 2021 NFL Combine, posted a 43-inch vertical leap, and cleared over 11 feet in the broad jump. He also showed fluidity with a 6.84-second three-cone drill. Despite coming from Central Arkansas, Rochell's raw athleticism was enough for the Rams to take a chance on him.

With Trevon Diggs and rookie Shavon Revel Jr. dealing with injuries, the Cowboys are a bit thin at cornerback. If he impresses in training camp, Rochell will have a chance to revive his career in Dallas.
