The majority of players are younger ones with limited experience, but there are a handful of intriguing options should Oxford United look to that area of the market.
We picked out six players released by Premier League teams who the U’s might look to sign.

Lucas Bergstrom
Released by Chelsea, the 22-year-old Finnish goalkeeper would be following a similar route to that of current United number one Jamie Cumming.
Bergstrom never played for the Blues first team, but has experience from loan spells at Peterborough United in Sky Bet League One during the 2022/23 campaign, making 28 appearances in all competitions.
Bergstrom has also played on loan at Swedish side IF BP. It’s not a position deemed a priority this summer, but Bergstrom could be regarded as a project addition.
James Nolan
The 19-year-old right back is leaving Manchester United in the summer, having played four times for the Red Devils’ Under-21s side in the EFL Trophy.
He spent the 2024/25 season on loan at Inverness CT in Scottish League One, playing 30 times in the league.
Even more so than Bergstrom, Nolan would be a project signing with a view to the future, but his age means he wouldn’t contribute to the 25-man squad list.
Craig Dawson
A more familiar name is 35-year-old centre half Dawson, who is departing Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Dawson started his career at Rochdale, prior to later permanent spells at West Bromwich Albion, Watford and West Ham United.
Dawson joined Wolves in January 2023, and played 61 times for the club, with 16 of those coming last season.

Mason Holgate
The 28-year-old centre back is leaving Everton after close to a decade at the club. Holgate played 150 times for the Toffees, while having loans at West Brom, Southampton and Sheffield United.
Holgate spent last season on loan with the Baggies, and played 27 times for the club.
His pedigree and CV, combined with his age, would make Holgate a trickier coup to pull off, but he would no doubt provide additional quality to the U’s backline.
Harry Toffolo
The 29-year-old left back started his career at Norwich City, prior to subsequent stints with Lincoln City and Huddersfield Town.
Toffolo has spent the last three years at Nottingham Forest, making 57 appearances for the club. He played seven times for Forest last season.
Massimo Luongo
The 32-year-old Australia international midfielder began his career at Tottenham Hotspur, and then moved to Swindon Town following a couple of loan spells with United’s rivals.
Having also played for Queens Park Rangers, Sheffield Wednesday and Middlesbrough, Luongo played 75 times for Ipswich Town after joining the Tractor Boys in January 2023.
