‘Flying in today’ - Journalist just said star jetting to England to sign for Liverpool

Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz is flying to Liverpool today to finalise his £116m move, journalist Ben Jacobs has revealed.

The 'phenomenal' Germany international is expected to complete his medical on Friday and become the Reds’ second summer signing, after teammate Jeremie Frimpong arrived on a five-year deal.

Liverpool are set to pay a club-record fee for Wirtz, surpassing the £85m they spent on Darwin Nunez’s arrival from Benfica in 2022.

Wirtz is coming off another impressive season in Germany, having scored 16 goals and provided 15 assists in 45 appearances across all competitions for Leverkusen.

The attacking midfielder helped Leverkusen clinch their first-ever Bundesliga title last term but now looks set to lead their ongoing summer exodus.

The German club have already parted ways with manager Xabi Alonso, who joined Real Madrid, as well as first-team stars Frimpong and Jonathan Tah, with Wirtz now set to become the third major departure.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are set to continue their summer spree following a deal for Wirtz, with Bournemouth full-back Milos Kerkez’s arrival set to follow.

The Hungary international is believed to have reached an agreement over personal terms, with a club-to-club agreement also nearing for a fee of around £40m.

Liverpool are likely to bring in a new centre-forward as well this summer to potentially replace Napoli and Saudi Pro League target Darwin Nunez.

The Uruguayan forward is expected to end his three-year Anfield chapter this summer, having struggled to convince Slot last season by scoring just seven goals across 47 appearances.
