Exclusive: Man Utd interested in 23-goal striker who could cost£20m, Christopher Vivell and Jason Wilcox'appreciate'him

Manchester United are showing interest in striker Tolu Akorodare, United In Focus understands.

It is no secret Manchester United are keen to sign a striker. It’s not just a ‘want’, it’s a necessity for a team that struggled to score goals over the past two season.

Various names have been linked with moves, including Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres, and Eintracht Frankfurt forward Hugo Ekitike. Both would cost in the region of £70 million, while Victor Osimhen would be another expensive name.

It makes far more sense for United to look at more moderately priced forwards, and one the Red Devils are checking out is Racing Genk striker Tolu Akorodare.

Who is Tolu Akorodare?

Tolu Akorodare finished as the top goalscorer in the Belgian Pro League in 2024/25, with 17 goals in 30 games.

He added a further six in other competitions, taking his tally to 23 goals and 7 assists for the season.

The 24-year-old centre-forward hails from Nigeria, and has previously had spells in Germany, France and Latvia before making the move to Genk for just £3.5 million in January 2023.

Akorodare wears the number 99 shirt for his club and was capped by Nigeria for the first time earlier in 2025, where he has one goal in four appearances.

Tolu Akorodare to Manchester United – the situation

United In Focus can reveal that Tolu Arokodare’s name has emerged on United’s radar in recent months.

We can confirm that United’s scouts have pushed Arokodare’s name and he is someone that Christopher Vivell and Jason Wilcox are aware of, and appreciate.

Transfer insider Graeme Bailey explains: “Ruben Amorim knows what he wants, he wants that target man – we know the club are moving on from Rasmus Hojlund.

“Victor Osimhen and Victor Gyokeres, these are targets for a reason, but their first choice was Liam Delap – we know that – but we also know he [Amorim] wasn’t that keen.

“So could Arokodare emerge as a target? It’s not impossible – he is a huge talent, in every way.”

Benfica are among the interested clubs, and Arokodare could be available for as little as £20 million. He would also command relatively low wages. He has two years remaining on his current contract.

United’s interest is at a tentative early stage, but this is also the very early part of the transfer window, and the club need to have back-up plans to main, bigger targets.

Arokodare is a low-cost high potential forward who could add a lot of size and goalscoring prowess to the club’s attack.
