Mateo Joseph is away from Leeds United as Spain’s youth team play the UEFA Euro Under-21.

The ex-Espanyol youngster’s future at Elland Road is uncertain ahead of next season, but it will likely only be resolved once he returns to West Yorkshire.

Real Betis have their eyes on Joseph this summer transfer window, with the 21-year-old struggling for game time at the Whites last season.

While Daniel Farke lost faith in the Spain Under-21 international after initially giving him regular minutes in the previous campaign, the German manager may still be counting on him after Premier League promotion.

Joseph transfer not a priority for Leeds United amid Betis interest

Leeds wouldn’t mind keeping Joseph this summer amid interest from Betis, according to Joe Brennan.

The AS journalist believes the Whites are in no hurry to sell the 21-year-old and are waiting for the right offer to potentially sanction his exit from Elland Road.

Brennan claims the La Liga outfit have launched multiple bids for the Spanish youngster, but the West Yorkshire outfit could keep him despite signing Lukas Nmecha.

Joseph’s Championship record last season.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, the journalist said: “Betis are said to be very keen on [Joseph] and are said to have lodged one if not two bids, but as of yet Leeds are sticking their feet in the ground and not moving.

“Signing Nmecha is an indication that the club want to improve their attacking line, but I don’t think they’d be too upset were Joseph to remain a part of that.

“If Betis pay the money, I suspect he would leave, but as I say, I don’t think he’s a player Leeds are pushing out of the door.”

Farke may want more attacking depth after Premier League promotion.

Farke needs attacking depth after Premier League promotion at Leeds

Patrick Bamford’s future at Leeds is up in the air, with Wrexham interested in the English centre-forward’s signature.

Joel Piroe was impressive in the Championship last season, winning the golden boot, but the Dutchman can’t be expected to produce similar numbers in the Premier League.

While Nmecha will provide Farke with another attacking option in the upcoming campaign, he doesn’t have the reputation of being a prolific goalscorer.

Even if the Whites sign another striker this summer, Joseph may still have something to offer at Elland Road in terms of attacking depth, and his situation in LS11 is one to watch closely.
